Chronic Infections
Repeated infections can be concerning.
Children will often have upper respiratory infections as a normal part of development. Exposure to viruses and bacterial infections increases in daycare and primary school classrooms. If the number of respiratory infections is excessive and leads to intensified medical care such as surgery or hospitalization, allergy and immune system function may need evaluation.
Allergy tests can determine if common allergies are causing tissues to swell, leading to recurrent infection of the upper respiratory tract. Blood work can screen for potential immune dysfunction in any age group. Identifying the cause for the increased pattern of infection can often make a big difference in overall health.
