Allergic Skin Conditions
Eczema and hives are evaluated by an allergist to identify a possible trigger for the skin reaction.
Eczema is dry, itchy red skin. Infants may present early in life with eczema which may be flared by a food. When the food is eliminated from the diet the eczema is often much easier to treat. Occasionally an adult will have an allergy that will flare their eczema.
Hives are raised, white expanding areas of skin that move around the body occasionally causing deep swelling of the lips of other soft tissues. Hives can have many triggers including food, medication, infection, and other contacts.
Providing evaluation and treatment for these skin conditions is an area of allergist expertise.
